On July 11, 2019, Nativity Prep lost our beloved Headmaster, John Martin, to cancer. John led our school from 2015 to the end of his life. His legacy is a great one as an educator and administrator, however, Nativity credit’s John for our very first capital campaign Nativity 2020, Building our community One Boy at a Time. This campaign was so successful that within a year, we reached and even exceeded our initial goal of $1.5 million dollars. John’s vision for Nativity 2020 was to secure the continuity of our promise to this community that we will be here for the current and future Nativity generations. That included investing in our campus buildings and setting up an endowment fund. One element of the campaign and the one closest to John’s heart was the demolition of an old indoor pool to make space for a large outdoor playground area for our students to play basketball and six square, to learn and dine.
The John D. Martin Playground was dedicated to John before his death. He was so pleased to hang his heart on this project and see his vision become reality. John’s presence and guidance will be sorely missed at Nativity Prep for many years to come. Thank you, John!
A memorial service will be held for John on Friday, August 23rd at 11pm at the Barrington Baptist Church, Barrington, R.I.
“Death is something inevitable. When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity.”
