Volunteer Teaching Opportunities
2012-2013 TEACHING OPPORTUNITY
Nativity provides students with an excellent academic preparation for secondary school and beyond. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to teach, coach, and guide these deserving students.
Teacher duties include:
- Teach 4 to 5 class periods per day
- Coach athletics (1 per season)
- Facilitate afternoon activities
- Proctor evening study (2 per week)
- Chaperone fun nights and field trips (2 per month)
The school will provide you with housing at 101 School Street, a boarding house directly adjacent to the school. The rooms in the house vary greatly in size. Each teacher is provided with a living space, which includes a bed and basic furniture (most include their own bathroom); as well, teachers have access to an on-site washer and dryer and a common room with cable TV.
Each first year volunteer receives a monthly stiped of $325, August through June. Second year teachers receive $525/month. Teachers are also provided with an Americorps grant totalling approximately $5,000 for each the first two years of service, which may be applied to future of past educational expenses.
In addition to the compensation listed above, Nativity provides its staff with a weekly food allowance, which is offset by parent-provided lunches during the work week. Volunteers are also enrolled in United Healthcare’s health insurance program through the school.
Be a part of changing the direction of a young person’s life. While no teaching experience is required, demonstrated academic achievement and selfless motivation are essential.
